Trisha Turner

Let me tell you a story about how this all started.

Boy, was I cool.

After waiting tables for months following my college graduation (graduating during a recession: don’t recommend), I snagged a job as a reporter with a daily newspaper.

What would I be covering? Who cared? I had a job. And at the ripe, old age of 22 I would be sitting in a newsroom alongside seasoned old hands who’d been writing and reporting longer than I’d been alive.

As it turns out, I was to cover the education beat, reporting on everything from school board meetings to the projects and programs of local college campuses. What, exactly, did I know about writing about education? Well, it must have been something impressive — because they gave the job to me.

Sure. Also, there was this: The person they’d actually wanted to have the job had backed out.

That nugget was the first of many things I’d learn as a newbie reporter writing about education.

And 30 years later, I’m still doing it: discovering ways I’m not as cool as I think (for more on this, please contact my children) — and writing about education.

Of course, along the way I’ve developed passions beyond that education interest sparked by accident all those years ago: I’ve been a fitness devotee since around the time I got my rookie reporter comeuppance. And much of my work has been in the nonprofit sector, from college media relations to local and national charitable organizations. Check out my website and LinkedIn profile to learn more.

Now education, health & fitness, and nonprofits are the focuses of my freelance writing and editing. So let’s put my three decades of misadventures rich experience to work to attract students and dollars to your organization, school or business.
